We started the festive season properly last Thursday, serving up fresh burgers and jumbo hot dogs to the hundreds of people who turned out to see the Christmas Lights being switched on in Llandaff North.
We both live locally, so it was great to be able to be a part of an event in our own community for the first time. The weather held out on the evening, so it was lovely to see so many people turn out for the occasion. The Llandaff North Festival team did a fantastic job putting on the event, including getting the main road closed so that everyone could listen to local school choirs, welcome Santa to the festivities, and watch the amazing fireworks display at the end of the evening.
It was great to be able to chat to people from the local area, including some of our neighbours, and introduce them to what we do!
This was our first time serving up jumbo hot dogs and we were really pleased with the response – thanks to our friends at Farmers Pantry for making massive jumbo sausages for us, and to our friends at Nata & Co. for creating unique sourdough hot dogs rolls just for us… The jumbo hot dogs will be back!

Our first trip to Monmouth was an absolute delight… The sun was shining as we drove through the Welsh countryside with gorgeous views of the hills and valleys. We even arrived with enough time to grab some lunch and a quick walk around the town centre before the real ‘work’ had to begin.
The venue, outside Shire Hall at the top of town, was great. It always good to be in a town centre and setting the trailer up in front of such an grand building gave a real sense of occasion, alongside the camaraderie of the traders all helping each other negotiate the tight space… One of our favourite parts of any event is meeting our fellow street food vendors, and there were some real crackers at this event!
Despite the change in weather as evening set in (yes, you’ve guessed it, it rained!) the people of Monmouth were hardy and turned out in their hundreds… There was a fantastic atmosphere to this event, with great local artists playing all night, providing a soundtrack to accompany the sizzle of beef on the griddle! We were lucky to have the time to chat to lots of people and find out more about the area, the music festival, and some of the local businesses that are well worth a visit in Monmouth.
Well last weekend was a busy one in Urban Eats Wales’ world…
On Friday and Saturday evening, we had the pleasure of being back at DEPOT on Dumballs Road in Cardiff for the first weekend of their Winter Socials. These events were really popular last year and were a part of what established DEPOT as one of Cardiff’s main street food venues.
The building’s been ‘done up’ for winter, with loads of fab festive decorations…
In the spirit of the occasion, we trialled a new burger… The Sunday Dinner. With thick gravy, stuffing and honey-glazed parsnips, this is a real winter warmer.
It’s the perfect place to be on a cold winter’s night and we’re looking forward to being back here on 11/12 December.
Then, on Sunday, we headed west to Swansea to join Swansea Street Feasts for the city’s first Street Food Night Market. We had a fantastic location in Castle Square, right in the centre of the city. This was our first ‘Christmas’ event of 2015, with a wonderful parade and the light switch on taking place on the same day. There was a great atmosphere in town – we were even joined by a local band for the evening. We really enjoyed being a part of the Swansea collective.
